The storm which didn't arrive on Sunday afternoon turned up in the early hours of the morning. Snowfall totals in the valley were high making the commute to the canyon fairly hideous. We just managed to get up LCC before the road was closed. Our plan was to hit the Spire but the White Pine lot was closed too. Instead we ascended to Cardiff Pass with the intent of lapping the S-facers. Snow totals in LCC didn't appear to be too high: perhaps 8-12" of low density snow. The new snow didn't bond at all well to the old surface and there was a bit of cracking on higher slope angles. Still, the skiing, unlike the light, was very good with plenty of face-shots. The best lines were on Hellgate.
During the morning, the snow dribbled down with little wind. After 4 laps I was done. The rest of the group went over to Flagstaff, I went for the white-knuckle ride down the canyon. 4,300' on the day, and 21,700' for the long weekend.
