On Monday, with the snowpack appearing to have settled down a bit, the decision was to go into Days Fork. Ascending from Alta, Flagstaff Ridge was a predictably icy affair. On reaching the summit, it was nice to see Days with only a few tracks in it as folks had been sensibly staying away from the steeper lines. With the sun already blasting above, we tried a N facing shot on the lookers right of Upper Days. 3 Days of soaring temperatures hadn't killed off all the powder.
On the way back up, we dug a pit on a steeper NE aspect. The recent storm snow - all 5' of it - proved quite resiliant, despite all the junk below it. Given that, and the quality of the snow we had just skied, we decided to ruin Days for everyone else!
From the summit we got another good view of the High Ivory slide which had run full track to the flats below. There was also the unusual sight of an untracked Cardiac Ridge!
Next lap: a slightly steeper line
The powder was a little heavy, but it skied very nicely!>
It was around here that I lost track of the laps: we kept banging them out in Upper Days. This sequence is in Two Dogs.
The clouds were being quite irritating. They would clear on every ascent, cooking us under the sun, and appear again, just as I would get out my camera.
To mix it up, we also threw in some Powderkeg training, trying to see how quickly we could ascend from the flats in Upper Days. Unfortunately I couldn't do any better than 13 minutes.
Just as the light became its flattest, some random skier with a red hat turned up.
After many laps, we skied out of Upper Days before ascending part of Main Days to ski that. From there we took a very odd traverse to get to the top of Banana Days. On the way up were some interesting signs of settlement!
Despite the pit suggesting otherwise, we skied along the ridge for the top section of BD. It was here where we found the best snow.
Stopping by to see the enormous avalanche at the bottom of Days Draw, we ascended to the BCC, catching the bus to the lot. By the time I got up to Alta, it was starting to get dark, giving a nice view of Superior.
A very good day, with a lot of settled and bouncy powder.
