On Saturday we went to Mount Dimond on the N side of the pass. On the way up, for once, we had a SKIN TRACK to follow!
The reason for the skin track became quite apparent. Around the upper cirque that divides Mt Dimond from its unnamed neighbour were countless 1000'+ 40 degree+ couloirs.
For the first time in a week, we also saw some other skiers, here booting up one of the longer lines opposite Mt Dimond.
There had been some wet activity on the Mt Dimond side already so we went for an untracked line towards the back of the cirque.
After a quick skin...
..we switched to booting.
Variable conditions on the way down with the lingering breakable crust. It looks A LOT better than it skied!
The jagged ridge to Mt Dimond.
Outside the good snow in the cirque it was still variable on the way down with a mixture of sastrugi and various breakable crusts.
