On Tuesday the sun was poking out so we decided to head down to Port Valdez to ski the imaginatively named Sugarloaf.
The ascent would be up the NW shoulder, here on the RHS, starting with a brief bushwhack and a short pitch up the Oil Pipeline (just visible on the bottom right). I knew that today would be tough as I would not be able to complain about the altitude.
The views on the way up were rather nice.
The town of Valdez.
Really good over there.
Deep waters.
10 million Barrels of Oil.
It was also quite warm.
The new snow and the warm temperatures made breaking trail very tough. Where was Lars when we needed him?
The last 1,000' were much better, with some decent looking powder. Dropping in was quite good.
Two telemarkers.
One A-T.
Matt letting it rip.
The summit in the background.
Tracks on the shoulder.
